4-(Chloromethyl)benzoic acid methyl ester is a synthetic compound that inhibits the DPP-IV enzyme, which is involved in the breakdown of the incretin hormones glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). Its structure consists of a benzene ring with a chloromethyl group on one side and an ester group on the other. 4-(Chloromethyl)benzoic acid methyl ester has been shown to be more potent than other known DPP-IV inhibitors.
